Because without an upset or either Texas or OU, Tech will likely be on the outside looking in at the BCS playing at the Cotton Bowl. Had Tech had a little better showing in Norman, things might be different but the good thing is that both OU and Texas have had trouble with their rivals the last few years.
Boone Pickens Stadium is a different world in Stillwater, and the Aggies are playing in their bowl game against Texas on Thursday.
A trip to the Cotton Bowl won't be that bad, but it will stink when an 11-1 team is not playing in the BCS, while two mediocre ACC and Big East teams are cashing BCS checks. It just goes to show that the current system stinks and it's time for a playoff.
How they do it, I don't know, but I'd like to see 12 teams, with four first-round byes, which would reward teams winning power conferences such as the SEC and Big 12. And to all those naysayers, it won't make the regular season irrelevent. They keep comparing it to basketball, but that's apples and oranges. I got one question for those naysayers: Is the NFL regular season irrelevant? They have a playoff.
What playoff supporters have to hope for is a big-time, big-school with a huge alumni base is left out of the BCS. When that happens, that president will see the light and others will follow.
See ya,
Len Hayward
