Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas plans expansion into Midland-Odessa market
Midland-Odessa is on the list to receive an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a cinema-eatery concept combining first-run films and restaurant service.
Triple Tap Ventures LLC said Monday it plans to build a new property in Midland-Odessa, along with Amarillo, Corpus Christi, Houston, Lubbock and San Marcos while also acquiring two existing company-owned properties in the Houston area. ...
Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas provide a unique combination of theater and restaurant, showing first-run and independent films while offering in-theater food and beverage service that includes an extensive menu of freshly prepared appetizers, sandwiches, pizzas, burgers and salads as well as a wide selection of hand-crafted beers and great wines.
The cinemas range in size from two to nine screens and resemble traditional movie theaters except rows of seats alternate with bench-style tables. Once seated, customers order from the menu and the wait staff brings the food to their seats. Customers can continue to order during the movie by writing their request on paper and attaching it to clips on each table. Waiters quietly collect and deliver those orders without distracting from the movie. All tabs are closed before the film ends.

And then call your favorite downtown proponent and tell them that a business like this needs to be downtown. We have said it more than once. The latest was our
entry at Live Midland.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas would have everything:
- a place which favors adults or the entire family;
- something we don't have right now;
- something which frankly gives off a big-city feel;
- a second theater in Midland, another need for the city;
- an outstanding addition and maybe the signature piece to a downtown entertainment district.
Maybe we have found a use for the Old Ritz location, maybe somewhere by Luigi's and the Bar. Put Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas in Midland and it will be a hit. Put it downtown and its impact might be far greater.
