Hungry for some good barbecue, try today's Leadership Midland cookoff

It is taking place all day (until 5 p.m.) at the American Legion Building, 501 Veterans Airpark Lane, north of ClayDesta. Cookers were there all night Friday getting everything ready to cook their best barbecue, chili, chicken, ribs, etc. The cookoff is CASI-sanctioned, meaning the food will be quality as cookers can earn points to make it the big end-of-the-year cookoff in Terlingua.

The event is a Leadership Midland fundraiser and proceeds will go to projects benefiting Midland Fair Havens, Midland Rape Crisis and Children's Advocacy Center, the Martin Luther King Jr. Center and Hope House.

There also will be a car show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
