Fight On For old USC…on another day
. It quickly became apparent that Texas was still Texas and Oklahoma State was still Oklahoma State, so the search for something more competitive began. None was found. What we did find was the most frightening Halloween scare of the night…Oregon and USC.
The Webfoots didn’t even wear any of their weird uniforms, for which they are noted, to scare the Trojans. Who needed them? This was a Halloween Prank that soon became ugly. They tricked and then mistreated the ogre of the Far West.
What Oregon did to USC is what USC did to Oklahoma in the championship game a few years ago, the one where Sooner players, totally out of the game, in the second half allegedly asked Quarterback Mike Leinert to stop throwing passes “so we can get out of here.” If you believe that, let me read something from Grimm’s fairy tales.
Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli turned in a Heisman type performance, topping that of Cincinnati’s the second string quarterback a couple of weeks back. But, alas, Oregon is on the Left Coast and Heisman concentration is East of the great Divide.
The kid runs like no other quarterback in the land and his passing is passable as well. And that young freshman from Texaarkana, LaMichael James, a 180-plus yard rusher proved the perfect complement to Masoli’s Frankenstien impression, which leads to the probable LaGarrette Blount reinstatement. Does it really matter?
They don’t need him and the excuse for bringing him back, whether he deserves it or not, is pretty weak. Blount has been a perfect gentleman since the incident and, as TV caster Brent Musburger put, “he has since has attended class faithfully.”
Could that mean, before Boise State the sucker punch….but that couldn’t possibily be true, could it?
How much is Blount needed? Let’s see, he played in the Boise State game. Wasn’t that Oregon’s only loss?
We understand, after four straight losses in Oregon, USC is seeking membership in the coast conference with St. Mary’s, Santa Clara, Redlands, UC-Davis, Napa Valley State….they’ll never find us there.
