Four teams from District 2-5A made it to the playoffs, but you can’t decide how they did it without a slide rule, and most people nowadays don’t know what a slide rule is. That makes it all the more amazing. What ever happened to the coin toss, or did it disappear with the tradition of going to first downs or yardage gained to decide overtime games.
Perhaps, the saddest part of all was the Lee-Odessa game. Lee beat the only undefeated team in the district, but it didn’t matter a whit in deciding…

There comes several times in a person's life as they age where they ask themselves "is this it?" "Is this what I should be doing with my life?" So, I contribute...if you have to ask, then there are probably two things going on: 1. you are not happy with some aspect of your life, or 2. you feel the overwhelming need to feel like you are here living in this world on purpose.
To anyone asking themselves the above questions, I write to you this; don't take anyone or anything for granted, figure out…

The race is over and Kurt Busch wins the race, having enough fuel to outlast his brother Kyle and deny him the opportunity to win all three races in the same weekend. Busch pitted on Lap 332 as he ran out of fuel at the end of the race. He ended up in 11th spot.
The top five was Kurt Busch, Denny Hamlin, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin and Kevin Harvick.

Kyle Busch still leads but chatter coming from his crew chief suggests they could be a couple laps short on fuel. Bus…

I saw this on a friend's Facebook post.
It read:
Regardless of the dubious quality of the bill, passing a sweeping domestic reform with narrow partisan support is historically unusual. The House typically reaches an overwhelming bipartisan consensus before a major change in society (yay-nay votes):
No Child Left Behind (2001): 384-45
Voting Rights Act (1965): 333-85
Medicare (1965): 313-115
Social Security (1935): 372-33
But not this time...
Healthcare Reform (2009): 220-215, with 39 Democ…

It has been a while since I've seen Greenwood look that helpless on the football field. But No. 4-ranked Monahans can make anyone look that bad.
The Loboes were impressive, especially on defense, as it held the Rangers to 32 yards and one first down in a dominating 42-0 victory in Monahans on Friday night.
Even Greenwood head coach Steve Taylor commented after the game that the Loboes are so good, it's going to be interesting how far they can go in the playoffs. I personally doubt that the 10-0…

Just talked to Bobby Hillin Jr., a few minutes ago. Hillin had stepped out of the car for a relief driver because he said the car was very, very loose and didn't want to mess up anybody during Saturday's race.
He said he wanted to tell everyone in Midland, Hello.
As far as the race, there have been a few wrecks, including viscious ones for Joey Lagano and Steve Wallace, but much like the rest of the year it's been the Kyle Busch show.
Busch is going to win the race by more than two seconds.
Se…

Beginning to meditate can be likened to starting a long journey. The destination and the means of travel must
be known before setting out. Meditation is an art, a definite art, and well worth working for to become accomplished. Meditation is not easy, and yet it is not difficult. It only takes persistence, working day after day to learn to control and train the outer as well as the subtle, inner forces. When we begin to meditate, we have to
transmute the energies of the physical body. By sitting…

It is becoming one of the most overused cliches in sports. It is "at the end of the day."
The phrase, according to the
free dictionary, is used :
1. the time when work or one's waking hours end.
2. when everything else has been taken into consideration.
Informally, the phrase is something that you say
before you say what you believe to be the most important fact of a situation
"At the end of the day" is the new "p…

We know Jeff Sparks will be our newest councilman, Texans passed all 11 amendments, Republicans won two high-profile gubernatorial elections and a Democrat was too tough for the Conservative in NY-23.
But there was more.
Here is your roundup.
Mainers voted down gay marriage.
Here is the story
'Everything but marriage' backers smelling victory in Washington state.…

Did Spence run for the wrong seat? We think so
There are going to be people who second-guess the decision of my former boss Charlie Spence to run for city council. I will not be one of them. He's a good man and his decision to provide competition for Jeff Sparks was good for the process. We appreciate competitive elections much more than hearing of candidates winning without campaigning. Because Spence ran, issues were talked about and the citizens of District 1 won.
Having written that…

QB Jace Edwards (concussion - probable), QB Adrian Horton (concussion - probable), WR Corey McPherson (concussion - out), OL Brandon Govan (shoulder stinger - probable), DL Luke Brown (neck - out), CB Tevin Collier (knee - out)
Edwards, Horton and Govan were wearing orange practice jerseys Tuesday, signifying they weren't to be involved in any contact drills while McPherson, Brown and Collier did not practice.
This is both good and bad news for the Rebels. While Brown and Collier will be…

I wanted to tell the Sheriff's Department "Thank You" for allowing inmates to pick up trash along Loop 250.
They are doing a very good job and it is nice to see Sheriff Painter doing something to improve the appearance of our city - inside the city limits.
Thanks Gary!

Recently I’ve been seeing a lot of people getting pulled over in town. I don’t know if it’s more than usual, of if it’s just me paying more attention to my surroundings, but it seems every time I get in the car I see someone getting a ticket.
This has got me thinking. Not that I’m bragging, but I’ve been pulled over many times and probably only gotten tickets for maybe a third of these instances. Now, I know what you’re thinking, and you’re wrong… I didn’t get out of my tickets because I’m so b…

During my childhood, I always can we think best for ourselves. I always heard from the poor poeple saying that life is always tough for them and working hard is a must for them in order to maintain current life style. Is that entirely true, and do we really have to work so hard just to get what we want? After growing up, I am in the same situation and people around me. Then I have another question in mind, when the time we get what we think we want, is that really what we want?
After g

It looks like it's down to to Midland High and Lee for the final playoff spot in District 2-5A. Due to some confusing tie-breaker scenarios, it appears that Odessa High, Amarillo High and Odessa Permian have all punched their playoff tickets. Don't ask me how because I don't full understand it either.
This situation was set up by the Bulldogs' hard-fought loss to new district champ OHS last Friday. It was a fairly simple game, really. The Bronchos are a very good team with a very good running g…

How quickly things change.
One quarter, Lee looked out of its element against Amarillo High. The next, it appeared the Rebels had figured out the Sandies. A quarter without quarterback Jace Edwards, all hopes of victory seemed to disappear for Lee. Then backup Adrian Horton leads the Rebels down the field to drive the ball.
On one hand, it's amazing the Rebels were even competitive against the Sandies. Edwards, who was on pace for a career day, didn't take a snap in the second half due to a co…

My forte' in high school subjects was never Math.
Nope, not me. Math and I just never got along. I enjoyed English, Creative Writing and the like. Physics never even came into question.
Now my kids....that's a different story.
So when my son announced earlier this fall that he would be building a 'trebuchet' (a WHAT??)... I asked if it was legal. Of course I got the 'rolled eyes' response, and he said, "Mom, it's for Physics"!
Okay.....well, how would I know?
The culmination of such a great bu…
