Time for more Six-Man teams at ASCO Midland Football Madness

In the ongoing debate that comes all the time as to how better to use the Scharbauer Sports Complex, the question that always comes up is why isn't there more football games
at Grande Communications Stadium?

That's not a question I ask much because how many games are played at Grande are dependent on the schedules for Lee and Midland High, and whether it's a good neutral
site for playoff games. There are factors involved in this t

Rebels impressive in win over Montwood

As I organized my area in the press box at SAC Stadium in El Paso before Lee’s game with El Paso Montwood, I asked someone next to me (everyone called him “Coach” but he didn’t appear to be affiliated with any school in particular) what teams were supposed to compete in District 1-5A.
He pointed to Montwood as the Rams warmed up and added El Paso Coronado, which Lee plays this upcoming week. In the back of my mind, I thought, “Uh oh, Lee could start the season 0-2.” Well, 42 unanswered point… Continue

Jonathan Hull's thoughts on MHS win

My first game under the Friday night lights of Grande Communications was an enjoyable experience, but I don’t think I got nearly as much pleasure from it than the Midland High faithful did.

There had to be some tense bodies in the stands at halftime, though. The Bulldogs offense looked completely discombobulated with an excess of penalties, fumbles and negative plays, killing drive after drive.
Those issues left the Bulldogs without any points

Oscar's take on Redman's record-breaking night

Even though Hunter Redman wanted all the
record-breaking talk to die down and was relieved when it was all over, it still
amounted to a special Friday night at Seminole’s Wigwam Stadium.
Usually
there’s very little drama in the season-opening game of a football season. Most
of the time as a sports writer you’re there to see what teams actually have to
work with for the upcoming season. Scrimmages can only tell you so much as
coaches run their vanilla plays

Greenwood, Coahoma ready to grow after season opener

I'm still putting names with faces for the 2010 Rebels, but here were a few moments that stood out during Saturday's intersquad scrimmage: The first team offense scored on its first two drives of the scrimmage against, from what I could tell, was mo…

Some hotel issues kept me from staying in San Antonio this week for coaching school, but that doesn't mean that there isn't news coming out of there.- The University Interscholastic League's annual press conference with the media produced a number o…

Out here at Citibank Ballpark for the Texas League All-Star Game and folks have been coming in, getting autographs and getting some food. The South team just finished batting practice and the North will soon follow. The sun has crept out but there a…

It's interesting to note in there that the SEC was reacting to what the Pac 10 was trying to do, but I think this thing isn't done yet. If OU, OSU and A&M can eventually convince UT to join, those four schools joining the SEC is a likely scenario. I…

Gotta love that. Texas officials, namely AD DeLoss Dodds, have tried hard to maintain that they are the good guys in all of the possible conference realignment, but they just loved controlling this thing. I know they did, and already adds to their i…

How about Andrews' Chad Campbell in the Masters. The area should be real proud!

It was obvious after a couple of series that Tech was in over its head against Oklahoma and the outcome was a foregone conclusion. If you stuck with the runaway, you missed a great game and finish on Versus between Oregon State and Arizona, won on the last play by the Beavers. And now the Civil War with the Webfoots, rechristened Ducks.
All the OU-Tech game proved that the Sooners have better players, a ghost that lingers on. When David McWilliams, or ws it Williams, came from Texas to coach Tech, he was asked the big difference between the programs, "Those big, talented offensive linemen at Texas."
