INTRODUCTION....

West Texas B & R stands for West Texas Born and Raised because....... that describes me (duhhhhhhh). My Mother and Father and older brother and sister lived on an oil field when I was born along with 11 other families that worked at Todd Field. Now how much more WEST TEXAS can you get than that???? My Mom, since she decided it was wise to give birth to me in a hospital (Thanks Mom!) had to drive in to Big Lake, Texas. I've also lived in Ozona, Pecos, Odessa and now, Midland. I went to high school here and then graduated from Texas Tech. You'd think that since I lived and grew up among the tumble weeds I would just blow away one day, but I love it here. The people are unbelievable, the winters are never too cold, the wind is windy, the dirt is dirty.... but the summers make me want to go live in Colorado.

NBC Interview with President and Laura Bush

As I watched a recent NBC interview with President and Laura Bush who spoke candidly about their years spent living in the White House and their plans for returning to private life, I received some badly needed reminders of some very important things……

• The person who fills the office of president and their families are human with human faults and frailties. They struggle in a pressure cooker to keep their family together and their relationship as husband and wife strong.
• Adversity can make… Continue

A Demolition Groupie

Since Monday I find myself being constantly and uncontrollably drawn to my office window which overlooks the site where the Midland Savings Building used to be. The echoing noise is simply mesmerizing as the heavy machinery vehicles hammer through huge blocks of concrete, sort through debris for salvageable chunks of steal, and scoop up broken concrete and dirt into waiting dump trucks. And best of all - the crane that slams a huge ball into the adjacent building still standing sending bricks fl… Continue

A Little About Me

Well, I'm just scared to tell you too much cuz you just never know who reads this stuff. I could lie and say things like, "Divorced and Looking. Works out regularly and in great shape. Love to dance, drink, smoke and party." But none of that would be true (except the divorced part). I could describe myself as "solid, faithful, dependable, trustworthy", but though true, those are traits a person looks for in a dog. I could say I am "intelligent, sharp, great sense of humor" but those things are s… Continue

DEAR ABBY: Loved one's final wishes honor unique individuals

DEAR ABBY: I’m writing to encourage “Wants to Do Right by Mama” (Jan. 25) to honor her mother’s final wishes regarding her burial attire and the position of her body. Several years ago, I sat down with my parents and we talked about their wishes for when they die. We discussed everything from the distribution of their assets to the type of funerals they want. I learned that my father would like a large tombstone, which is something I never knew, so I asked him to draw up exactly what he had in mind.
